Microsoft has made the code for a new OS called Singularity available, in hopes that academic research types will play around with it.

This new technology could prove useful in showing a newer, fresher side of the Redmond guys, but can they afford to leave Windows behind? As the article points out, Microsoft has too many people it must please if it plans to keep it's control over the PC market. Would you be able to have full compatibility with Windows and more importantly, Office, which is what most people use Windows for?
